Cleantech or clean technologies balance the efficient use of natural resources and the reduction or elimination of negative ecological impacts while providing superior performance at competitive costs.
Within the Ottawa Cleantech Initiative three primary technology areas have been identified that encompass most of the clean technologies that are either in development or on the market. These technology groupings and some of the specific technologies they include are:
Bioproducts:
Clean Energy:
Environmental Technologies:
Many of these technologies can overlap with each other to form a complete solution. Building networks between and amongst these technology groupings as well as amongst individuals working the different stages of development from research through industry to policy accelerates the commercialization of these technologies.
